This is magic time. Young minds are inquisitive. They can communicate fully. They analyze and speculate. They see the world from a new and unique perspective. They know phonies. They are completely honest. They don’t know how cute they are yet. This is my favorite time. They are open and capable of teaching adults a thing or two. They can learn to read, if they’ve been read to. The can sing and play music. They have developed physical dexterity. Talents emerge. Foreign languages are readily absorbed. Physically and mentally, they are capable of almost anything new. They form interests. They see possibilities. They make connections.

They are verbalizing their impressions of the world, unfiltered, unedited and with complete candor. They haven’t learned political correctness, thankfully. Words of wisdom often emerge when truths are realized. Their observations can be hysterically funny. Get out the pen and paper and save these verbal gems for grandparents and posterity.

Early pre-school and early reading make for better students later. Everything begun in this period gets a head start. This is golden time.

They have thoughts and feelings, preferences, likes and dislikes. Reason takes a larger role in their thought process. They are watching and listening to you. You can expect to see your behavior played back . . .
